Dyson Air Multiplier Bladeless Fans

As a Mom, I always had a love/hate relationship with fans. Our house gets unbelievably hot in the summer months, and fans are needed to cool us down. Yet, I was never comfortable having a floor or tabletop fan in the house because of safety concerns with my kids. Those small fingers could so easily sneak through the grate and …. chop! I hate to be graphic, but it can happen! One for the table? Too easy to knock over, and that’s another disastrous scenario. Air conditioning? A few days and I get sick from it. So, for the last 7 years, I have opted to not have fans at all, and my family has really suffered through the summers in terrible heat.

Long before the Dyson Air Multiplier bladeless fans were available to Canada, I drooled over them. I knew they would be the ultimate product for families with kids. And when I seen that us Canadians now had the option of purchasing the awesome Dyson bladeless fan online or in stores, I told everyone. And, thanks to the kind people at Dyson – we were sent one for review.

With 3 simple and easy steps, my Dyson AM03 Air Multiplier fan was assembled and running. I chose this tall pedestal fan since I wanted one to fully capture the little bit of cool air that comes in our back door and cool the entire main floor. And that it does! So far, our days have been either hot or rainy but with humid and stale air. Within just 10 minutes of turning on the Dyson Air Multiplier fan, my house feels cool and comfortable. For once I cannot wait until the peak of summer when our house is unbearably hot – as now I am fully prepared.

And the kid-friendliness? You can’t get more safe than this product invented by James Dyson {seriously, this man has successfully mastered products that both suck and blow!}

“Dyson Air Multiplier fans work very differently from conventional fans. They use Air Multiplier technology to draw in air and amplify it up to 18 times, producing an uninterrupted stream of smooth air. With no blades or grille, they’re safe, easy to clean and don’t cause unpleasant buffeting. Up to 27 litres of air per second is drawn in by an energy-efficient, brushless motor. A combination of the technologies used in turbochargers and jet engines generates powerful airflow. Next, airflow is accelerated though an annular aperture. It passes over a 16° airfoil-shaped ramp, which channels its direction. Air behind the Dyson Air Multiplier fan is drawn into the airflow, through a process known as inducement. Finally, air around the machine is also drawn into the airflow, through a process known as entrainment, amplifying it 15 times.”

I’m not going to get all ‘techy’ on you, since you can look that up yourself or watch James Dyson explain the design of his fans.

I will tell you, from my own experience, just how unbelievably awesome the Dyson Air Multiplier Fan is. Not only does it work so well as a fan. Yet, for the safety aspect, it really does put all other fans to complete shame. I can literally touch any surface of this Dyson pedestal fan, with 100% safety. I don’t have to screech when my children are within 5 feet of a fan anymore. Whether it be at home, work, in a home daycare or for the elderly – the bladeless feature of the Dyson Air Multiplier is just astounding and ideal when it comes to safety.

There are many sizes and shapes of fans in the Dyson Air Multiplier family, from small and compact to the grand daddy that I reviewed. They do come at a cost, ranging from $379.99CAD, to my AM03 Pedestal Model which retails for $549.99 here in Canada. {I’ll be sure to let you know if there’s a sale, of course!}

Dyson Fans are an investment, yet in my way of thinking – I have been without a fan for the last 7 years. And, I’d be worried about my kids’ fingers being chopped in a fan until they leave this house – that’s at least 18 years that I can have my cool air and my kids’ digits too. It may be a purchase that you wouldn’t rush into lightly, yet it’s comparable to the fabulous Dyson Vacuums. Everyone I know has said, “oh, that’s pricy” before purchasing their Dyson Vacuum’s. Yet after owning one, 100% of those people say, “I’d spend that again, this brand is worth it“. The same goes with the Dyson Air Multiplier bladeless fans – just plain awesomeness that raises the bar when compared to other brands when it comes to function, ease of cleaning and safety.

    We were considering one of these, but read reviews that it they are quite noisy. What was your experience with noise levels?

    • Actually, I didn’t notice any bothersome noise levels at all. It’s on right now {at the highest air flow speed}, and I am way across the room – it’s just a quiet hum.
      Hard to compare – but my portable air humidifier is way louder….

  2. The air multiplier totally rocks. You brought up an incredibly valid point when you wrote: Everyone I know has said, “oh, that’s pricy” before purchasing their Dyson Vacuum’s.

    It’s true – in the beginning, I thought – $500 for a vacuum? But now I absolutely wouldn’t buy another brand, after witnessing the quality and features. I’m sure once you’ve been able to appreciate the bladeless fan it’s the same.

      I agree Lena. Actually – a friend just bought their DC25 this last week, impressed with the function of mine. They commented that exact same thing – they could not believe how much it picked up. Worth it!

  3. Oh wow Tammi, that is a very awesome fan! Seriously! I’ve never gotten excited about a fan but the fact it doesn’t have blades (I have four kids and am too afraid of them losing fingers) grabbed my attention. The price made my jaw drop a bit… but it’s more of an investment, right?!

  4. p.s. what I hate most about regular fans… our front face screen ALWAYS fell off exposing those blades.

    Thanks for the review. I saw those and was very interested. I guess it’s gonna be my next purchase. They might come on sale at the end of the season also. :)

  6. My hubby told me about these and I couldn’t believe the price tag! I would love to have 1 though.

  7. I have the 10″ fan and love it! I would definitely consider buying a bigger one in the future.
