May Long Weekend – Fire up the BBQ! {Wonder+ SimplyFree}

This weekend is Canada’s May Long Weekend, a much loved time of the year. The holiday is marks Queen Victoria’s birthday and is most famous for the start of the summer months, camping season, sunshine and BBQ’s! With the recent weather, we have fire-bans all across the province, which is hindering a lot of camping plans. Yet, we are having such beautiful weather, I’m sure most people will be celebrating with some entertaining and cooking on the BBQ.

We are sticking close to home this May Long Weekend, yet we have a fun weekend planned. Our city’s Farmers Market starts on Saturday, and I’m looking forward to doing some gardening and planting of flowers. Up until now there has been nightly chances of frost, yet May Long Weekend is the unspoken weekend that most get their gardening started. I’m thrilled to start my summer gardening hobby.

I know a lot of people that are entertaining this weekend, with some parent and kid approved hamburgers and hotdogs. They are easiest and fastest BBQ meals to make, and taste so delicious. When I cook my hamburgers, I always add egg and some oats, to keep it together and give it some ‘size’. And, I use a lot of spices and sauces too, they are delicious! My kids, who always prefer hotdogs to hamburgers, really like the homemade burgers I prepare for the grill. It must be the love that goes in it! Canadian Living has some great hamburger and hot dog recipes, and I have my eye on the Blue-Cheese Stuffed Bacon Burgers. Sounds delicious and easy to make – and cheese is always welcome with burgers, especially inside them!

Now, to go along with those hamburgers and hot dogs, you need a good bun, right?
Wonder+ SimplyFree has a new product that I think all will enjoy. They have a new line of white buns that are made with unbleached flour and contain no high fructose corn syrup and artificial preservatives, flavors and colors. In my house, we do eat a lot of whole grain breads as they are hubby’s top choice. Yet when it comes to buns, there’s nothing like white bread. It may not be the healthiest choice, but I find brown and grain breads rather dry and there’s nothing worse than a hamburger or hot dog bun that falls apart when you are eating it. This is especially true when you have kids, you kinda want to help them keep it all together and not fall apart all over them. And, the carb lover in me cannot refuse a good ‘ol piece of white bread {and the kids prefer white as well, they must get that from me}. Now you can eat that white bread, without the guilt of being someone that really does prefer white breads.

Wonder is offering a facebook coupon for their new Wonder+ SimplyFree products. Just like their page on Facebook and the more of your friends who also like it, the better your coupon gets – up to B1G1 free! All the details on this offer and the Wonder+ SimplyFree line are found at Wonderbread.ca.

So…what are your May Long Weekend Plans??

We had a BBQ last night, it was so nice to have home made burgers on the grill! I’m so happy that the season has started.

Nothing too exciting for the long weekend, but I do have a special spa day planned for myself tomorrow :)

Enjoy the weekend Tammi

we are definitely having a BBQ this weekend – hosting 27 people. I’m making hamburgers (premade, sorry), hotdogs and kabobs. Salads and stuff too.
I may have to stop and pick these up! Have a great weekend!

We were going to BBQ last night, but it was kinda rainy. Not that rain or wind or snow has ever stopped us from BBQing but we thought we would wait for a little better chance for some sunshine.

I want to go to the spa with Lynette, by the way! LOL!

We’re pretty low key for the long weekend. I like it that way!

It’s hubbys birthday so friends and family and of course a BBQ. The typical job of planting flowers and yard work and a trip to Fort Edmonton Park which is open for the first time this year on the May long weekend. Thought that might interest you, they are having all kind of cool activities. Thanks for the heads up on the coupon and recipes on wonders site I always like to try new recipes!

we are staying home for the weekend too… and it is a good thing since it is absolutely pouring rain outside right now! If the weather smartens up we hope to be BBQ-ing on Monday :)
