Tegu is more than welcome for a special feature in my 2010 Holiday Gift Guide. Until recently I didn’t know this product existed, and then once we knew about them and played with them ourselves – my family was hooked. They are blocks made from sustainably sourced, FSC-certified, eco-friendly Honduran wood. Side note: they are named after the place they are made, Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. The production of Tegu blocks helps the Hondurans get education, money and food. This company has one amazing give-back program, they also re-plant way more trees than the ones they use to make Tegu blocks.
What makes Tegu blocks stand out beyond any other block I have seen, is the magnets placed inside each block. This allows them to defy gravity and provide dimensional creations in all directions, not just upwards. Not only do kids learn how to build, but they start to understand positive and negative polarity and how to make 3D creations. Tegu really does take the much loved block and explodes the possible creativity.
In my previous post on What do I build With Tegu blocks? {Tegu Live}, I introduced you to Tegu and their awesome Tegu Live promotion right now. Not only for product promotion, Tegu Live allows you to see how Tegu works and gives you ideas on what to build with these blocks. And remember, through Twitter and Facebook, you can request the block builder to create anything you’d like. It’s fun to watch but warning, it’s addicting too!
Tegu blocks seem like a simple invention, yet the educational and creative benefits make this one top block in my eyes. Plus, the size makes them pretty much impossible to choke on, for younger kids. Tegu blocks are made with such pristine care and quality, these blocks could easily become a heirloom and keepsake. My family got the The Original 52 pc. set of Tegu blocks {$100}, yet there is also the ‘Discovery Set’ which includes 26 Tegu blocks {$50}. That may seem a little pricey, yet once you see the features, the quality and the fact that all ages can play with them, I feel it’s worth it. And, for every purchase, Tegu will plant 12 trees in Honduras or fund one day of school for a child. Doesn’t that just make these blocks that much cooler?
One My Organized Chaos reader is going to get the Discovery Set of Tegu Blocks!
To Enter, Visit Tegu and you’ll either see the block builder live, or you’ll see archived creations he built recently {depending on what time of day you visit the site}. So, your main entry is to either tell me what he’s currently building or which archived creation you liked the best!
