Philips Sonicare For Kids

Well, the kids’ teeth survived another Halloween. Wait, now there’s all those Christmas treats coming up! It never ends, it seems like we parents are always at battle when it comes to dental care and keeping our kids’ teeth {and gums} healthy.

Philips has a fabulous toothbrush for kids called the Philips Sonicare For Kids, and it removes up to 75% more plaque in hard-to-reach areas than a children’s manual toothbrush. When I received one for review, for my daughter – it couldn’t have come at the perfect time. She is at that age when the kids’ character toothbrushes are seen as ‘baby toothbrushes’ and thus her brushing quality was slacking. As well, she received many praises from her last dental appointment, so that caused her to believe that she no longer needed to brush as often. The Philips Sonicare For Kids, the first-ever Sonicare power toothbrush for children, solved both of those two problems. It’s similar to my Philips Sonicare toothbrush for adults, so Isabelle loved having a ‘big girl’ brush. As well, it has some really great features to ensue that she brushes as long as she should. These are those features:

  • Innovative design with an interchangeable front panel that makes it fun for children to customize the look of their brush. The main body of the handle is red, but it comes with three decorative panels, appealing to both boys and girls.
  • KidTimer® to help them reach the recommended two-minute brushing time, and KidPacer® technology, which features fun musical tones to indicate when it’s time to move to another quadrant of the mouth to help ensure a thorough, full-mouth clean.
  • Ergonomic handle fits easily in kids’ hands and can accommodate adult hands for tooth brushing training and independent brushing. And the heads are shaped to fit a kids’ mouth perfectly.

At first the rotating and vibrating head on the toothbrush caused a massive fit of giggles. Yet, it enabled her to ‘tickle’ every angle of each tooth {yep, that’s our ‘game’!}. She seems to be brushing more often these days, and for a more reasonable length of time. It definitely solved some brushing stress in our house. My daughter really likes the fact that she has a ‘special’ toothbrush, one unlike  her sisters’ toothbrushes. That alone encourages them!

In my opinion, The Philips Sonicare For Kids toothbrush would be great for kids aged 5-10, approximately. Kids like that it’s made just for them, being a great in-between brush between baby/kids toothbrushes and adult sized models. The timer allows them to brush on their own, without us parents to have to nag – yet it reminds them how long they should be brushing. Plus, Sonicare means that it’s made to brush effectively, reaching each angle and surface. Sometimes people like to stick a toothbrush in a stocking a Christmas, yet this is so much better – for the kids, their independence and to ensure that their teeth and gums stay healthy. And, since they’ll use this toothbrush many times a day, it’s something that is needed and will be used!
