50th Anniversary of the Etch-A-Sketch | Review & Giveaway

Can you believe that Etch-A-Sketch is 50!! I knew that this beloved and classic toy for kids had been around for a long time, but I had no idea that it was celebrating such a grand anniversary. Founded in 1960 by the Ohio Art Company, over 150 million Etch-A-Sketches have been sold since its debut. That is a remarkable accomplishment in toy sales, isn’t it? And, in an age when there seems to be a new and hot toy almost weekly {and the technology for today’s toys allow them to make me coffee and feed the dog too…ok, that was a stretch, but you know what I mean!} In any case, it’s great to see a classic art toy still being loved by kids all over the world – one that can hold their own in the rough and tough market that is kids’ toys. So, a huge congratulations to Etch-A-Sketch!

We received the Classic Etch-A-Sketch for review, the same toy that I played with as a kid. Though my oldest daughter had played with an Etch-A-Sketch before {at a friends’ house}, she was elated to have her very own. Being almost 6, she is really into drawing right now – so she dove right into creating her pictures. Once I was able to coax her into letting me have a turn, I soon realized that I was really out of practice! I feel both ashamed yet proud to learn that my daughter was better at making discernible pictures from an Etch-A-Sketch, than I was! I told her that I would brush up and that we’d have a competition soon! {‘Team Tammi’ T-shirts will be on sale soon}.

The Classic Etch-A-Sketch has been also fun for my twin toddlers to use as well. Though pictures they do not make, they still get very excited to produce lines and boxes. It’s really improving their coordination, and concentration and they pretend to have made pictures of various animals. So, very great for toddlers’ imaginations and creativity as well. The classic Etch-A-Sketch has been an all around great toy to have in our home, and a great choice for taking on car trips too. And, with over 50 years of bring entertainment and creativity to kids all over the world, I can see the classic Etch-A-Sketch lasting as a top toy for another 50 years to come.
