Remember Jell-O Pudding Pops? | Enjoy This Recipe!

The summer weather sure makes our family reach for cool treats. When I was young, I loved Jell-O Pudding Pops, they were so creamy and delicious. Yet, for some reason they stopped making them. Do remember them? Does the commercial with Bill Cosby ring a bell? Ahh, what a flash from the past. Unfortunately, my kids have no idea when I talk about my favorite 80′s summer treat. “Pudding? In a Popsicle?” my daughter questions {yet the original Pudding Pops were actually made by Kraft, just so you know}.

So, I had done some research on the net, seeking the answer to why Kraft stopped making these awesome treats. Instead I read a ton of consumer disappointment and many people excited to discover that you can easily make them at home. Score! So, I set out to make Pudding Pops for my kids, and share with them my favorite treats from I was young.

They are creamy and delicious, just like I remember! I’m also getting more creative with the Pudding Pops I make. I have added fresh banana to the pudding and even crushed Oreos with Vanilla pudding to make cookies and cream!

Here’s the recipe I use:

You’ll Need:

  • 1 large box (5.1 oz) Jell-O Chocolate, Vanilla or Banana Cook & Serve Pudding
    {you can use the instant kind, yet it won’t be as creamy. I tried both}
  • 3 – cups cold milk
  • 1/2 – 3/4 cup thawed Cool Whip Whipped Topping
    {in a pinch I have used whipped topping in a can and it was a good alternative}
  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Small Dixie cups
  1. Make the pudding as the package explains.
  2. Cool slightly
  3. Add Cool Whip Topping to the pudding, stirring well
  4. Let Pudding mixture cool to lukewarm
  5. Pour into Dixie cups
  6. Insert one Popsicle stick
    {it should have cooled enough to set and hold the stick in place}
  7. Place in freezer. {I place all the cups on a baking sheet and put into the freezer}
  8. Freeze for at least 5 hours, peel off paper and EAT!

Mmmmmmm

Can these be made in the tupperware popsicle sets?

Yes, they are a little harder to get out. So, I just run under hot water for a few seconds and they slide out easily.

Thank you for this recipe! I used to love these as a kid…I have some instant in the cupboard and just might try some with that right now. Next time I’ll get the Cook & Serve kind!

I have the Tupperware popsicle sets, and was wondering as well if these could be made in them? I might just try it.

I loved the pudding pops and rootbeer float bars. Rootbeer float bars were hard to find, but I found some. The only problem is that they are too big for my little ones. They are not the single ones.

I don’t think I had Root Beer float bars – now I’m very curious!
Sounds delicious though!

Tami, thanks for the pudding pop recipe. I’ll have to try chocolate as that’s my favorite flavor.

Speaking of which, did you know that Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate is Fair Trade certified? It’ll make Fair Trade Certified chocolate easily accessible to Canadians.

I know your readers enjoy a good contest so I thought they could check this one out: The contest encourages people to make “Fair Trades” in exchange for a chance to win a trip for 4 to Ghana. The winner will get to see the impact of Fair Trade on cocoa farms in Ghana, Africa.

Thanks!
