Twin Toddlers' Brand New Tricks

Here is my problem....

Here is the problem in action...

Ahhh...isn't it cute what kids can learn?
Yes, all rooms are fair game now!
{{sigh}}

When Isabelle was this age, we lived in a house with the knob-type door handles. You know, the ones with the 'child proof' cap that you can buy for them! I put that phrase in '' because she caught on very quickly, but it still provided a deterrent for me, as I heard what she was trying to do.
Our current house has these nifty 'new' handles on every single door - with nothing invented to 'child proof' it! They are way to easy to quickly open.

Also, when Isabelle was a toddler, she would get into the bathroom or bedroom, look around for a total of one minute and leave. She was almost bored with the whole thing.
Not the Twins!!
Nope, these two are little devils!

Sophia is the only one who can actually open a door {watch it be another story tomorrow}, but since my Twins travel in packs - they both easily get into a lot of trouble together. They have their own language...Katie will be at a closed door and make a strange almost grunting sound, and Sophia will run across the room and open the door for her...yep, partners in crime!

Like I said, they love to explore where they should not be. And, they even know how to work together to pull open heavy dresser drawers too.

Are you kidding me???

Oh, that reminds me....here's another new 'trick'....

Wanna guess how many times my dishwasher was started - stopped, started - stopped, just today alone? If I don't close it all the way, it can't be started...but, it won't be too long before they put their minds together {literally} and learn how to shut it completely or open the door.

Life at this chaotic house has now been stepped up a notch.

just maybe if you pray real hard they'll go from 1 yr old to 3 yr olds and skip the terrible two phase!!
Hang in there Tammi!!! You're a wonderful Mom!!
See you soon!!
Hugs! Gvenny

Best wishes at your house! Just wanted to let you know that they do have things that work on those types of handles on doors now. Here is one that I found on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/ProGradeTM-Lever-Handle-Safety-1st/dp/B001FD4VNI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1257648083&sr=8-2
I am sure that there are others, but that was easily found.

Also, your dishwasher looks a lot like mine and I can "lock" it so that it cannot be started without being unlocked. It you want, I can look and see what we have to do to lock it and let you try it.

Good luck! Let me know if you need it by leaving me a comment on my page. :o)

wow sounds like my twins! just wait until they start climbing up counters and on the table. thats what mine do now. luckily for me we have regular knobs so they havent figure them out yet. thats the only thing that keeps my bathroom safe.

Jenn ~ Oh they sure do, they are hardly ever apart - which is good, cause I can't go in two directions!

Gvenny ~ HA! At least with Isabelle, 2 was a breeze! it's the 3,4 and 5 that I have found the worst = talking back/testing the limits!!

Nichole ~ Thanks! I will look at that link!! And, I don't think there is a lock on the dishwasher...

Janet ~ I thought of that - but since it's a new huse and this is a 'phase' DH does NOT want holes or anything like that put on...understandable, but I'm tempted anyway!

Raquel ~ Oh, goodie - there's more!!! LOL.
It's ALL rooms, there's just too much to put away!

our 1 1/2 yr old is into the same things. we have the same doors and dishwasher as you-she hasnt figured out how to close dishwasher door yet so we leave it open slightly.
we have to deadbolt doors to outside at all hours cause she can get outside

cant imagine two of those ;)

Actually, from your picture, I can tell that yours does lock. Look right below the "Heat Dry" button. See the little lock? That is how you can tell that it can be locked. With my dishwasher, which looks just like yours (buttons anyway), all you do it press and hold the "Heat Dry" button until the lock lights up. Once that happens, the dishwasher cannot be started. When you want to remove it, just hold down the "Heat Dry" button until the light goes off and then start it.

Good luck! Hope that helps!

My youngest likes to start the dishwasher as well! I think he's starting to grow out of that phase - hopefully! They should make dishwashers child proof. One's that can't run unless an adult punches in a code.

i always hear about twins bond and all that, but i know what you mean. My twins would do the same with the dishwasher. We go to empty it and dirty dishes.. Love that they can work together..

So glad that I was able to help! Good luck finding something for your doors. Where do you live?

Nevermind, you are in Canada, duh!

Can you get someone in the states to buy them and send them to you? I saw them at Target the other day...

I'm not sure I would get the handle locks.
If they are that curious they will probably be able to figure out those locks soon enough. They are not strength related and only require them to be able to learn the trick.
Most kids I know can open them within a few months

good luck

We have handles instead of knobs at our house too. We got these:
http://www.leapsandbounds.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=535454&parentCategoryId=85183&categoryId=85216
and installed them and they work like a charm. Even good for locking an uncooperating napper in her room for a bit. Just thought I'd throw my 2cents in! Good luck!
